Our Pitchfork Review

Wow, we know it has been a week, but we are still recovering from Pitchfork. Thanks to everyone who put on another great year of music, art, food and fun. A big, big shout out to the team who ran security for handing out tons of free water and really taking care the audience (it reminded us of our diy salad days, when kids would form a circle around someone in the pit when they had to tie their shoes). Without out further ado, here is our top 5.0 list for Pitchfork this year:

5. Live Daggering at Major Lazer

ML

It’s not hard to believe how big Major Lazer has gotten in the last year and a lot of that can be thanked by their live show. If someone told us we could hear Rude Boy alongside fifteen-thousand people, while Skerrit Bwoy daggered two beautiful girls between dancing Chinese Dragons, we would have told them to chill out on that white stuff.

4. Local Natives Sing Alongs

LN

It’s not hard to see why the crowd was packed for Local Natives set. With catchy tunes, sing a long parts and one of the best mustaches of the festival, these Frenchkiss alum are one of our bands to watch this year.

3. Big Boi’s Horn Section

BBH

Call us suckers for that brassy sound, but Big Boi’s horn section was the feel good sound of the festival. Everyone who stopped holding the breath over the release of his new album was singing and screaming alongside both new hits and Outcast classics.

2. LCD Soundsystem’s Cover of “Empire State of Mind”

LCD

After spending a few days out of New York, two to be exact, we began to feel a little homesick. Good thing Papa Murph knew how to clear away our blues with both an incredible live set and a little shout out to Jay-Z’s love song to their shared city during “NY I love You But You’re Bringing Me Down”. Chicago dug it, but it was definitely a moment for New Yorkers.

1. Pavement’s Continued Reunion

PR

Like a well placed crescendo during a blockbuster action scene, Pavement’s performance was the cherry to our ice cream Sunday. Playing like they had not taken a day off in ten years, they ruled over the crowd with fan favorites and a few deep cuts. It was a fitting end to another great year. See you again real soon Chi-town!
